Welcome to the Fam Baby ____

At 11-something p.m. Saturday night, my sister Kelly and her husband Mike became first-time parents to an adorable little boy without a name.

Congratulations Mike and Kelly!
We love you and can't wait to meet little no-name soon.

Denver Whirlwind

We finally met Taylor, the newest Burt, on a quick trip to Denver last weekend.

Though Porter wasn't quite sure what to think of Taylor at first (lots of wary stares and quiet hellos), he did genuinely enjoy Taylor's toys. In fact, I'm considering breaking out the infant toys once more for Porter's second birthday rather than buying more toys that will simply be discarded after one use.

In addition to hanging out at Chris and Lori's (thanks for the visit Denver-Burts), we also did a little shopping, visited some friends and went to the zoo. Porter served as tour guide, and all went smoothly.
I was pretty excited for Porter's first trip to the zoo because he loves pretending to be different animals as of late. But it was kind of anti-climactic when Porter's favorite animals wound up being the birds and the fish.

(Porter helped take this picture with the "cram-er-a")

Next time, we'll start with the monkeys and elephants rather than the pelicans and prarie dogs.

No worries though, we enjoyed a sunny afternoon with our pals. And even got a family photo out of the deal (if you check this blog regularly, you know most pics we post are either of just Porter or of Porter and Andy). So, in case you're curious, here's what the Burt family looks like as of late (Porter's face is more accurate than you might think. He's started fake-laughing at nearly everything he does as of late, which results in this cheesy, raised eyebrow grin).

And just for fun, if there was ever any doubt that Andy was Porter's dad, I think this pic will settle the debate.

Like father, like son.

Hambage

In case I've forgotten to return any messages from well-wishers, Porter is fine. Thanks for thinking about us. The surgery went off without a hitch and turned out to be no-biggie compared to the monster anxiety that preceeded it (what can I say, stress is my emotional fall-back).

As proof, here's Porter after coming out of the anesthesia. He looks like he got punched in the lip but other than that, he was his cheerful (yet groggy) lil' self. The nurse kept saying how amazed she was at how compliant and patient Porter is (refer back to the mom-is-a-stressball comment to understand why the kid has to be so easygoing).

Anyway, aside from when the nurse wheeled Porter's bed back into his room after the surgery and he immediately started whispering "want a mama," my favorite part of the experience (are you supposed to have favorites when it comes to hospitals and oral surgery?) was when Porter repeatedly called the bandage that held his IV in place his "hambage". My least favorite part was everything else. Here's hoping this first trip to the "hop-sitl with a big crane" (they're doing construction on the hospital and Porter loves the tractors and the cranes) is our last.

P.S. (can I P.S. on a blog?)
Yes, I do know it's weird that I archived the hospital trip.
I'm just trying to ensure his baby book is the most detailed of all the other kids on the playground (besides, from what I hear, the rest of the kiddies will be lucky if they even get a baby book, so I'll save the mellowing out for number 2+).

P.S.S
Yes, I know I owe you all some Easter pics. Coming soon...
